Dr. Shivani Kamat is an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology and Director of the Glaucoma Fellowship at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She specializes in the medical, laser, and surgical management of glaucoma, including complex glaucoma, minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS), and combined cataract and glaucoma procedures. Dr. Kamat also has extensive expertise in cataract surgery and anterior segment diseases, offering patients the latest in intraocular lens technology and surgical techniques.

Dr. Kamat earned her medical degree at the University of Florida College of Medicine. She then completed an internship in internal medicine at UF Health Shands Hospital, followed by an ophthalmology residency at Loyola University and a glaucoma fellowship at Massachusetts Eye and Ear, a primary teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School. Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, she joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2022 after serving as an Assistant Professor at the University of Michigan Kellogg Eye Center.

Actively involved in clinical research, Dr. Kamat focuses on the epidemiology of glaucoma, minimally invasive glaucoma surgery, and anterior segment disease. She has published numerous research articles in leading journals and has been the first surgeon in Texas to use the AquaLumen device for glaucoma management. Dr. Kamat is committed to building long-term relationships with her patients, providing personalized care to improve vision and manage chronic eye conditions.
