About Me

Dr. Amir Cohen is a board-certified glaucoma and cataract specialist who founded the Glaucoma & Cataract Center of New Jersey with the mission of providing individualized medical and surgical treatment plans to maximize vision for patients with glaucoma or cataracts. He has performed over 8,000 surgeries and specializes in complex and combined cataract and glaucoma procedures, as well as other treatments. Dr. Cohen is dedicated to preserving vision for those suffering from cataracts, at risk of glaucoma, or requiring glaucoma medical therapy, laser treatment, or surgery.

Dr. Cohen's passion for ophthalmology was inspired by his grandmother's vision loss due to glaucoma and macular degeneration. He completed his MD/MBA at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and Rutgers University Business School, followed by an internship at Cornell University, residency at New York Medical College where he served as chief resident, and a glaucoma and cataract fellowship at Yale University. At Yale, he developed a patent for intraocular pressure sensors and participated in a glaucoma screening program for low-income patients across Connecticut.

After his fellowship, Dr. Cohen served as the Associate Director of the Glaucoma division at Rutgers University/New Jersey Medical School for over a decade, where he treated patients, conducted research, and taught surgical techniques to residents. He has been recognized with teaching awards and a humanitarian award for his service. Dr. Cohen has also participated in humanitarian missions, performing glaucoma and cataract surgery in Grenada. He currently serves as medical director of the Livingston Surgery Center and is actively involved in research, consulting, and clinical trials for new treatments and devices.
